SOD Installation Steps
Preparation: The first step in any sod installation project is to prepare the ground. This includes removing any existing grass or weeds, tilling the soil to loosen it, and adding any necessary amendments such as compost or fertilizer to ensure that the soil is rich and well-draining.
Leveling: After the soil has been prepared, we make sure that the ground is level, with a slope that allows for proper drainage. This is important to prevent puddling and ensure that the sod has the best chance to take root and thrive.
Laying the First Row: We begin the sod installation by laying the first row along a straight edge, such as a fence line or patio. This helps us ensure that the rows are even and the edges are straight.
Laying the Next Rows: We continue laying the sod in a brick pattern, staggering the seams to create a seamless, professional-looking finish. We use a utility knife to cut holes for in-ground sprinkler heads and to trim the sod along planting beds and paved areas.
Watering: After the sod is installed, it’s important to water it thoroughly to help it settle into the soil and start taking root. We recommend watering the sod every day for the first 3 week, then tapering off over the next 6 weeks. After that, the sod should be watered twice a week to ensure that it stays hydrated and healthy.
- We leave your property with the sprinkler control box programmed. Detailed instructions on watering. All tools and equipment are pickup and nothing is left behind. We water down the walkways and try not to leave any trace. We want you to enjoy your new lawn immediately.
